Currently in Uganda, soon to be in Nigeria.

I'm an American journalist working across sub-Saharan Africa. Previously on staff at Foreign Policy magazine, I've worked in South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, and elsewhere. I've covered everything from conflict, human rights, diplomacy, and gender to missing U.N. drones, celebrity boat cruises, art, and music. A Boston native, I speak fluent French, but my name is Irish and it's pronounced Sha-VON.

2017 International Reporting Project Fellow, Nigeria.

2016 International Women's Media Foundation Fellow, South Sudan.

2015 International Women's Media Foundation Fellow, Congo.
